  • Saturday Morning Theater
  • Reality Check with Craig Price
  • Daily Adventure Tales with Laurie Weaver
  • Down These Mean Streets
  • Jim1537’s Metaphysical Tools For Transformation
  • The Uglee Truth
  • Pizza Beer Revolution
  • The Ramen Noodle: Clean Comedy Podcast
  • EMTF Podcast
  • I Heard it Was Good
  • Swiftcast

In order to break things down a little bit, I’ve split the podcasts into three groups. At the beginning of each set of snippets I will introduce the podcasts and give you a little detail of what’s coming up, so at least you know what to expect!

Let’s get going with the first 3

Saturday Morning Theater

Saturday Morning Media is your one stop shop for new, family friendly audio and video new media content by the creator of The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd, Saturday Morning Media aims to bring the magic back to Saturday Mornings!

This snippet was recorded at the Long Beach Comic Con this week! and it’s a super special Thanksgiving episode which is live as of Wednesday.

Reality Check with Craig Price

Alan Cerny (@nordlingAICN on twitter) and host Craig Price give their annual holiday movie preview. The two cover their anticipated movies as well as identify traditional December Oscar Bait!

Daily Adventure Tales

that encourages retired boomers to reinvent and reinvigorate their lives through trying something new every day

  • Featuring an opener by Donna Libra - Thanksgiving
  • Hiking and Thanksgiving Interview with Carl at Deukmejian Wilderness Park in Glendale California.
  • Skype call with her mom, where she does a Thanksgiving Poem, “The Night of Thanksgiving”, but not before giving Laurie her usual mom-like advice.
  • Laurie’s husband, and podcast helper, Mark wishes everyone a good holiday and wraps the podcast as usual.

Down These Mean Streets

It’s the show’s Thanksgiving Episode which went live on November 24th.

Down These Mean Streets presents classic detectives from the Golden Age of Radio.  Each week, they spotlight one of the best detectives of the era (Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, The Saint, Nero Wolfe, and many more).

Along with the show, they share some of the behind the scenes history of the series and their stars.  In their Thanksgiving episode, they’ve got a holiday adventure of Sam Spade from 1950, “The Terrified Turkey Caper.”

Jim1537’s Metaphysical Tools For Transformation

A podcast where Jim and his wife Meremystic offer metaphysical and spiritual tools that help people heal and transform their lives.

The Uglee Truth

Sisters who decided to venture into the uncharted territory of pod-casting, to see if they’re the only one in on their jokes. They’ll make you giggle and agree – at least once – with girls who have absolutely no filter before speaking.

No Fear, No Filter!!

They name names. They don’t sugar-coat it. The Taylor Swift of the podcasting world. Did you burn the bridge? Were you nice? Do you remember? Are you scared? Listen to find out!

The snippet is involves chatter about Thanksgiving which turns into a Black Friday rant. Please note…there is a bit of colorful language in this bit, so if you have young ears listening maybe skip the next 7 min?

Pizza Beer Revolution

They have and A side and a B side to this thing!

So the A side, which releases on Monday: Is Three friends, Mike Pullano (Host of NY Rangers Blueshirt Buzz), Chris Ippolito (Lead Singer of Chapterfive) & Joe Maffei (Pro Snowboarder), get together once a week, invite a guest over and order a pizza. (YUM!)

While they are waiting for the pizza and guest to arrive, they discus HOW the revolution will be televised - scratch that - podcasted.

They will thrill and delight you with hysterical anecdotes, awesome-sauce music and semi-intelligent conversation on a wide range of topics. These guys are just trying to make it all happen and not get eaten by the machine… whatever that machine may be.

B-Side, Thursday Morning Release: When the guest and pizza finally arrives.  They enjoy the pizza & beer with the guest. Finding out what makes their guest tick. The interview is based on the topics discussed on the A side.   Episode Description: The B-Side of Episode 9 with Holly Migliaccio from Rook Coffee Roasters. The guys invite Holly Migliaccio over to the dining room to discuss why she’s most like a Live Southern Ale, what lead to her jumping ship from the corporate world & how the idea of starting a coffee chain revolutionized her life.

The Ramen Noodle: Clean Comedy Podcast

Seasoning packets of clean comedy to flavor your day.

LOVE that, so succinct!

And the little snippet that we will hear is 10 Black Friday deals that SHOULD happen, and you’ll hear Daniel J. Lewis and Jeremy Laughlin. A small summary of the episode: 10 Black Friday deals that should

ETMF Podcast

ETMF Podcast is the one stop podcast for all things pop culture. They are masters of “the segue way”, the ETMF podcast crew will talk about anything and everything. TV, movies, music, video games, interwebs tomfoolery, they’ve got you covered.

I Heard That Was Good

Where Tim and Carson talk about movies you forgot were about Thanksgiving. It’s one of those that you go “Oh yeah….remember that movie?” I totally said that about the movie Scent of a Woman, mentioned by these guys :)

Swiftcast - A Taylor Swift Podcast By Fans, For Fans

Fully dedicated to keeping up with Taylor Swift’s amazing daily news, but also equally as dedicated to keeping up with what’s going on in the Fan community aka Swifties.

And this little snippet is a fan cast at it’s best, it’s all about why they are thankful for the mighty Taylor Swift.

iTunes SEO

Jonathan from the Foreign Filmcast could not find The Feed in iTunes, so he ended up googling it and found it that way.

Did a little bit of research and I asked via social media if we could get some of our community to search for the feed in iTunes and we got an array of responses, so this is what I noticed:

  • If you search for The Feed and hit enter we are nowhere to be found.
  • If you search for The Feed in the search box, the little drop down list that comes up does have us on there twice.
  • There are what I think THOUSANDS of people that use ‘the’ + ‘feed’ in their title ie all the people from Blog Talk Radio - the blog talk radio feed, Linux Reality Podcast mp3 feed, etc.
  • There are also a ton of apps that use The Feed in their title or in their description.

-Elsie

What really matters in iTunes search

  • The title of the show
  • How many all time subscribers all time.
  • That’s it!

Replacing an existing file in Libsyn.

The way that works the quickest when replacing a file is to FTP the file up to your libsyn “dropbox” FTP folder - and make sure the new version has the identical file name as the original including CASE. That will overwrite the original with in a few minutes. And the stats will just continue on.

If you use the “replace” option in the UI - it could take a few hours for the new version to propagate out to the 40+ nodes around the world.

-Rob

Why should you publish to your libsyn feed

There are a few tutorials out there that recommend you upload files and select the option file for download only - these tutorials are ALL wrong and giving you bad advice. PERIOD.

Even if you don’t use or ever plan to use the Libsyn feeds or extra services like the smartphone apps or HTML 5 player or website or cross-posting to Wordpress or Blogger - or any other of the great services Libsyn offers - there is one service ALL Libsyn podcasters will want to be part of and that is our directory - directory.libsyn.com - and ALL those tutorials that say just to select file for download only when you upload a file - are for lack of a better phrase - screwing you over on the PR side.

Unless you publish to your libsyn RSS feed - your show will NOT repeat not show up in directory.libsyn.com and that is the same directory that powers our facebook app And well soon we will be talking more why it is even really important to be listed in that directory.

But for now if you are one that selects file for download only - well you are shooting yourself in the foot - and note publishing to your libsyn feed - where you add a title and description - does not change how any of those tutorials will work. If you would like instructions on how you can have all of your meta data imported over automatically for all your past episodes - shoot me an email rob@libsyn.com

Changing of ownership of feed:

The original owner from the registered email would first cancel out their subscription in billing.

Then emails support@libsyn.com - and tells them the email address they want to give ownership over to.

And then support assigns the new email and deletes out the old email - and the new owner logs in and updates the billing.

What cities are in the city part of Libsyn stats - or how granular do we go

There are 210 DMA’s - which is why if any one looks at their city stats - you would see 211 listed if you look all time - and have a decent following. The 211’th is Unknown - no all requests come in with City level info.

How to update your feed in Stitcher

Anyone needing to update their RSS feed will need to send Stitcher the new feed. Quick email to content@stitcher.com with the new address and it will be swapped out!

Setting up a podcast station on your iOS device

Click on My Stations at the bottom of the Podcasts app. Then tap “New Station” upper right.

Then give the station a title - and then select the shows from the list of shows you are subscribed to - and yes you do need to be subscribed to the show as it only gives you the options for shows from the list of your subscriptions in the podcasts app.

In iTunes 11.1 - there is now support for syncing your Podcast station info to iCloud and sharing between devices. So you can start listening the Feed on the car ride home on your iPhone and then finish listening later in bed on your iPad.

Newest Articles on the Libsyn Blog and Podcasting Links

Podcasting Articles and Links mentioned by Rob and Elsie

Hey all, thank you and welcome to Episode 5 of The Feed: The official Libsyn Podcast, the podcast that takes it beyond how to podcast into keeping you podcasting, with podcasting tips for the everyday podcaster + taking you inside Libsyn the largest podcast host and distribution network since 2004!

First things!

We have a voice feedback number! 412 573 1934 AND we have a SpeakPipe account! You can leave us audio feedback over on this page.

Submit your Podcasting segment!

Since we had our first listener submitted contribution to the show, I’d love to encourage you guys to join in!

If you have a segment that you would like to submit to me, something that will benefit the podcasting community as a whole, either something you learned or something that has worked for you, please send it along.

It can be hardware, software reviews, your podcasting workflow or possibly promotional ideas that have really helped you grow your audience that you feel would help all of us.

Email your contributions to thefeed(at)libsyn(dot)com

If you are a Libsyn podcaster and want to be featured in our Rockin’ Libsyn Podcasts blog series all you have to do is email thefeed(at)libsyn(dot)com.

I schedule those on a first come first serve basis, so when you get all the info to me that you need to get to me, I’ll schedule you on the next available date.

The Rockin’ Libsyn Podcasts are blog posts that usually go live on Mondays. As of the writing of this post I’m scheduled up to mid November 2013.

Send in your 30 second or less podcast promo!

Share your message in 30 seconds or less! Not only is this a great exercise for you to distill the essence of your podcast, but it also helps the greater podcasting community get to know each other better!

Send them into thefeed(at)libsyn(dot)com!

Some Elsie feedback about sending in your promos

Leave your podcast name and URL when sending in your promos…or any communication for that matter!

Make sure when you send in your show promo, your name and your show are prominently shown in the email, as well as a link back to your website or any other social media properties that you’d like to share with us.

This makes it super easy for me to connect with you and PROMOTE you. I do my best to link back to you in as many

I’ve been getting people that have been sending me promos that have no URL anywhere, no email signature and the email address that it comes from doesn’t help PLUS the name they’ve named the promo in no way helps to tell me what the podcast is either.

It would make my life easier if you could simply offer that information

Libsyn Power Tips

How to get two different Media players from your one libsyn account

Rob has 2 media players on Podcast411 and today in iOS.

If you go to Podcast411.com right now you will see a big player top center - with the artwork for Rich Eisens Podcast (at the time of this writing) - that is his show level player - it has in the artwork and it keeps up to date whenever he publishes a new episode.

He doesn’t do anything to update it.

If you scroll down you will see the episode level players - those stay fixed per the episode they are assigned.

How you get both is the following.

First you set up the player you want for the episode level. You do that by checking out this support article.

Get the size and type you want - then copy the embed code and paste to your site.

Next - Set up the player you want for the per episode posts. And leave it set there.

Then when you publish your next episode at the end after you hit publish you will get the embed code for just that episode - per the size / type you set up.

But wherever you previously embedded the Show level player - it will continue to update to show the most recent episode.

URL’s To Use when Direct Linking

Sometime on websites or twitter we will see people linking to their files but with the wrong URL.

They will be using the URL - where their file redirects to. For example it may be -

http://ec.libsyn.com/….

or

http://hwcdn.libsyn.com….

Those are the wrong URL’s to use - they are temp URL’s - and can and WILL break in the future.

The URL you want to use for direct links to your media files is

http://traffic.libsyn.com/YOURSLUG/FILENAME

If you check your links and it is not traffic after the http:// - you are doing it wrong.

It also can effect your stats - as in not getting counted.

The real issue is anything other than the traffic link is a temp URL - and will in the future break - not that it may break - it WILL BREAK.

Will using your city’s name in your podcast episode get you in trouble?

Per Rob’s email below:

“Hi Rob, this evening I went to a community meeting in Inglewood I go to every month. They love the concept of my radio show. But the block club president suggests I should call the councilman in the city or speak to the city legal lawyer to find out if it’s OK to use Inglewood in my title. Only word I know is registered is Realtor(r) what do you suggest I do to verify its OK. thank you for your time”

Read this article. The second letter in the article sums it up nicely.

In other words - just use Inglewood in your show’s name. And if anyone gives you grief - send them the link above.

Feed not updating in iTunes

This next one is an issue regarding those using Feedburner and a problem with the Podcasts App.

A Libsyn user was having problems when listeners tapped to download an episode in the Podcasts App - It streamed fine - but it would not download into the app.

It would give an error and time out.

We figured out it was not the Libsyn feed - as putting that in direct to the Podcasts App worked fine. It wound up being the person was using Smartcast and Stats for Feedburner.

When they turned those items off - Then the downloads started up fine.

So if you are using Feedburner - check your show in the Podcasts App and see if you can get it to download, if not make sure to deselect all the smartcast and stats options in Feedburner - which you really don’t need anyway if you have Libsyn as your source feed.

That issue would be for anyone using Feedburner regardless of where you host or what your source feed is - there is something going on with the Podcasts App - that does not like smartcast and stats options in Feedburner.
